Condition & notes
In Very Good condition. Cream illustrated wraps with silver lettering and color reproductions of paintings on front and rear covers; mild shelf and edge wear with light bumping, creasing to edges and corners, mild scuffing and soiling, and fine scratches to front cover image. Staple bound; binding tight. Interior pages clean and unmarked. Exhibition catalogue for Harold Joe Waldrum's paintings of the adobe churches of northern New Mexico, shown at the Montgomery Gallery, San Francisco, June 8-July 23, 1988, in association with the Gerald Peters Gallery of Santa Fe. The colophon carries the 1985 copyright, Library of Congress number and ISBN of the Gerald Peters Gallery catalogue of that year; a facing page lists the Montgomery Gallery staff and its other exhibition catalogues. Waldrum (1934-2003) reduced the chapels of Ranchos de Taos, Chacon, Cordova, Las Trampas, Llano Quemado and other villages to flat planes of saturated color and shadow. William Peterson's essay describes his mineral pigments and metallic powders, his use of the Polaroid SX-70 as a sketching tool from about 1981, and his fundraising for the restoration of churches decaying under cement plaster. The list of works gives the Spanish title and canvas size of each painting, from 17 to 81 inches square. Photograph of Waldrum by Bernard Plossu; production and design by ARTSPACE Magazine, Albuquerque; printed by Jarvis Press, Dallas.
