China-painting instruction book adapting the bister method (a brown monochrome underpainting) from oil painting to overglaze porcelain. Haggerty, a Minneapolis porcelain painter and seminar teacher, credits the idea to her daughter's training at Atelier Lack, the atelier that traces its teaching lineage to Rembrandt. Begins with a value study of a single grape and the five bister colors, then gives full-size line drawings with painting-by-painting directions and firing temperatures for each project: grape coupe and tray, rose tile and color study, tort tray, oval water-lily plaque, white rose vase, pink rose box, dull red rose vase, water-lily box and dinner set, and an 8-inch rose coupe. The pink rose box design draws on Alphonse Mucha's Art Nouveau style book, with a lesson on freehand gold scrolls and interlocked initials. Ends with notes on paints, mediums, pens and enamels. The author's other publications, listed on the title page, are My Coloring Book, The Value of Gray, Variations on a Theme, Designing with Bands and Unique Jewelry Designs.
