Old yellow tape on front and rear paste-downs where dust jacket was once taped to the book, with a 1.5" tear to the paper of the front paste-down alongside one of the tape strips. Interior pages mildly toned, otherwise unmarked. Yellow illustrated dust jacket with color reproductions of Brooks wash drawings on front and rear panels. Volume in the Reinhold Art Course Series, a practical course in brush, pen and ink wash for beginners and students, written in San Miguel de Allende, where Brooks had lived since 1947. Short illustrated chapters cover materials, line, texture, black-and-white massing, bamboo pen and brush, dry brush, masking and papers, with a panel comparing seven sketching media and a strip of six papers (Strathmore, Grumbacher, Whatman, d'Arches, David Cox, tinted charcoal). "Seven Wash Drawings Analyzed" sets a Quebec village photograph beside his sketches of the same scene, and a closing gallery reproduces wash drawings by ten contemporary artists, including James Pinto and Louis Ribak. The color plates show Mexican market, street and village scenes; the endpapers reproduce a full-spread wash landscape signed in the plate "Leonard Brooks. Vancouver. 52." Brooks (1911-2011) was an official Canadian war artist and a member of the Royal Canadian Academy and the Canadian Group of Painters.
