Condition & notes

In Very Good condition, no dust jacket. Tan cloth boards lettered in black on front ("Nash's Expeditious Measurer / Cubic Contents Tables") and spine; mild shelf and edge wear, bumping to head of spine and along spine edges. Binding tight. Thumb-index tabs all present, a few small nicks to the paper above the tabs on a few leaves. Mild foxing to endpapers and title page, occasional light spotting, otherwise unmarked. Ready-reckoner tables giving the solid contents, in cubic feet and twelfths, of packages and cases by length, breadth and depth, indexed by the smallest dimension from one inch upward. Includes instructions with worked examples, surface measurement, a column for the "5ths off" deduction for the bulge of casks and hogsheads, rules for gauging casks in wine and beer gallons, a table of the contents of round timber, and miscellaneous weights and measures for barrels, bales and chests of trade goods. The work descends from The Merchant and Seaman's Expeditious Measurer, issued by E. & G. W. Blunt in the 1820s and 1830s, and stayed in use for cargo and warehouse measurement into the mid-twentieth century.
