Collection of wildlife photographs by Alexander Lowry (1937-2010), the San Jose-born newspaper and documentary photographer whose work appeared in more than 500 publications. The 52 photographs, taken in California between 1961 and 1974, were made almost entirely with 35mm Pentax equipment and a 400mm lens. Subjects include mule deer in Yosemite, an Anna's hummingbird at its nest in Santa Cruz, an American bittern in the San Joaquin Valley, marbled godwits and a whimbrel on Monterey Bay, sea otters and harbor seals at Point Lobos, and a California sea lion at the door of the abandoned light keeper's house on Ano Nuevo Island. Afterword by Lowry's Capitola neighbor David Brockmann, with Lowry's own photographic notes. Published by a small Santa Cruz press. Lowry's photographs are held by UC Santa Cruz Special Collections and the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History.
