Souvenir published by The Etude Music Magazine for the Sesqui-Centennial International Exposition in Philadelphia, 1926, and distributed by the Theodore Presser Co. at its exhibit in the Palace of Liberal Arts. Its core is what the publishers called the first comprehensive collection of portraits of American composers: several hundred photographic portraits, arranged alphabetically and most with birthplace and year of birth, of composers born in America or living there in 1926. Among them are a young George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Amy Beach, Carrie Jacobs Bond, Ernest Bloch, Charles Griffes, Howard Hanson, George M. Cohan and John Philip Sousa. A double-page "Etude's Remarkable Musical Hall of Fame" lists contributors from Rachmaninoff and Puccini to Thomas Edison. Short essays cover the music of Philadelphia, the history of The Etude (with a reproduction of the first issue, 1883) and the House of Presser. Printed music includes Sousa's "Power and Glory," Lieurance's "By the Waters of Minnetonka" and Borowski's "Adoration" for violin and piano. Final page reproduces Walter Dorwin Teague's title design for the Presser Collection.
