Condition & notes

In Good condition. Staple bound, binding tight. Black-and-white pictorial front cover (palm-lined cove with campers on the Gulf shore), plain white rear cover. Bumping and creasing to edges and corners, mild shelf and edge wear, some toning and soiling, a few small spots to rear cover. Previous owner's ink notes at head of title page and beside several Ensenada listings (room and rate notes, restaurant recommendations), and ink underlining and bracketing on pp. 3-4. Laid in: orange advertising slip for Casa del Sol Motel, Ensenada, printed both sides with U.S.-dollar room rates and the shops on the premises (liquor, silver jewelry, Mexican arts and crafts, furniture); small pen calculations in left margin. AAA's directory of every hotel, motel, resort, campground and trailer park along Mexico Highways 1, 5 and 19, issued six years after the 1973 completion of the Transpeninsular Highway opened the peninsula to drive-down tourism. Entries run north to south from Tijuana to Cabo San Lucas with units, rates and amenities, AAA approval marks, U.S. reservation agents, and the government-built El Presidente chain at Catavina, Guerrero Negro, San Ignacio and Loreto. All prices in pesos at 22.50 to the dollar, following the August 1976 devaluation. Includes fishing lodges with private airstrips and aviation gas, a San Quintin motel whose fly-in guests buzzed the building for a ride from the strip, playas publicas at 22.50 pesos per vehicle, and advice to carry spare fan belts and radiator water through the empty mid-peninsula. The owner's notes and the laid-in Casa del Sol slip record an actual Ensenada stay.
