Condition & notes

In Very Good condition. Black-and-white pictorial paper covers (photograph of Menor's Ferry below the Tetons) with mild shelf and edge wear and light toning. Staple bound, binding tight. Pages mildly toned. Otherwise clean and unmarked. Account of Bill and Holiday Menor, the profane, quarrelsome brothers who ran the ferry across the Snake River below the Tetons from 1892; Bill sold in 1918, and the ferry worked until the 1927 bridge. Judge grew up in Jackson Hole, a great-granddaughter of homesteader Mary Jane Wadams, and married Paul Judge, chief ranger of Grand Teton National Park. Her pieces on early valley life appeared in The Atlantic in 1952 and 1954, and the park's 1999 historic resource study, A Place Called Jackson Hole, cites her repeatedly. Reprinted from the Denver Post's Empire Magazine and the Jackson's Hole Courier; also issued in 1960 as a chapter of Campfire Tales of Jackson Hole. Rear cover reproduces the Mission 66 wayside sign at the ferry, quoting her closing lines.
