John Antonsons Boktryckeri, Gothenburg; illustrated with a color reproduction of an 1830 view of Gothenburg, black-and-white photographs, portraits, reproductions of paintings and prints, a double-page view of the harbor in the 1870s, and facsimiles of ledger and order-book pages and a British shipping licence.
In Good condition, no dust jacket. Blue paper over boards with gilt lettering on front cover, white cloth spine with gilt lettering. Bumping to edges and corners, with some nicking and peeling to paper at corner tips. Mild to moderate shelf and edge wear, some toning and soiling to front and rear covers and soiling to spine. Binding tight. Pages toned, heavier toning to endpapers, and mild spotted foxing throughout, heavier on leaf facing title page. Otherwise unmarked. Anniversary history of the Gothenburg merchant house Ekman & Co., founded on January 29, 1802, presented by the firm to its friends abroad. Fahlstrom's English summary follows the Ekman family from Joen Larsson of Varmland (c. 1599) through the founding partnership of Gustaf Henrik Ekman and Gustaf Rudolf Prytz, the herring and bar-iron trade, the Napoleonic Continental System, and Gustaf Ekman's work at Lesjofors in rebuilding the Swedish iron industry. Also covers the firm's move into pulp and paper from the 1890s and its branches in Japan and Shanghai. Illustrations include the Persberg iron mines, herring stations in the Gothenburg skerries, the firm's premises, and portraits of the present board. Foreword by chairman Hakan Ekman, dated December 1951, with facsimile signature.
