In Very Good condition with a Good dust jacket. Red cloth boards with gilt lettering on black panels on front cover and spine. Mild shelf and edge wear. Binding tight. Previous owner's rubber stamp (a professional geologist's registration seal) on front and rear pastedowns, and the same seal embossed on title page, copyright page and two following preliminary leaves. Otherwise, pages clean and unmarked. Illustrated dust jacket with pen-and-ink portrait of Barnes on front panel, tributes by Joseph Wood Krutch, Merle Curti, Harold U. Faulkner and others on rear panel; jacket design by Fredrick L. Dodd; not price-clipped ($10.00). 1.5-inch tear to top edge at front hinge and a few smaller nicks and tears.
