Chelsea-Lee Books, Published 1972-1974. Paperback, 3 volumes, continuously paged, main sequence to 559 pp, with separately paged Problems and Exclusions sections in each volume; 28 cm; second printings (Volume 1, 1975; Volume 2, 1975; Volume 3, 1976); illustrated with black-and-white film stills.
In Good condition. Cream, blue and yellow illustrated paper covers, uniform O. Barr cover design printed in three colors. Mild to moderate toning to text blocks, light toning and soiling to covers. Spines creased on all three volumes. Volume 1 creased at bottom corner of front cover and top corner of back cover, with a half-inch closed tear and small triangular chip at bottom edge near spine, and chipping to paper at foot of spine. Volume 2 shows mild bumping and creasing to edges and corners, and nicking to paper on front cover. Volume 3 stained at top and along bottom edge of back cover, with bumping and creasing to edges and corners. Bindings are glued and now brittle, with a few leaves beginning to pull at the glue, all present and attached. Check marks beside entries on the first four pages of film listings in Volume 1. Otherwise unmarked. International catalog of science fiction, fantasy and horror films compiled by Walt Lee, assisted by Bill Warren, later author of Keep Watching the Skies!, a survey of American science fiction films of 1950 to 1962. Arranged alphabetically by title across the three volumes, covering the silent era forward and taking in animated shorts and films using pixilation alongside live action. Entries give year, country, production company, running time and credits for direction, screenplay, cinematography, art direction, makeup, special effects, editing, music and cast, with classification codes, notes on source novels and plays, sequel and remake cross references, and citations to trade and review sources. Each volume has a separately paged Exclusions section, recording titles investigated and found not significantly fantastic, so that a reader can tell a title was considered rather than overlooked, and a Problems section, recording titles the available data could neither list nor exclude beyond reasonable doubt, among them films announced but never completed. Introduction to Volume 2 by Christopher Lee. Volume 3 adds an introduction by Robert Bloch, an afterword by Forrest J Ackerman, and a bibliography. Frontispieces reproduce a Flash Gordon serial still, Boris Karloff in The Mummy (1932), and 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).
