Condition & notes
In Very Good condition. Seven bright green and one blue illustrated paper covers, clean and bright with only faint handling; interiors unmarked. Envelope worn and creased, its label rubbed and price-corrected in ink, the old sealing tape across the bottom brittle. Otherwise unmarked. Complete run to 1991 of the satirical Dragonspire stories, tall tales of a fictional shire of the Society for Creative Anachronism founded by a science-fiction club at "Maranon University in Central Illinois." Orlando Ambrosius is the persona of F. L. Watkins, whose Folump Enterprises was founded in Urbana in 1976 to publish material for Society members, and the early volumes carry the imprint of Wurm Wald, the Society's barony for Champaign-Urbana. Told by "Al" about his friend Bob (Sir Robert of Northcrag, caricatured on every cover), the stories cover the shire's founding, its first war and first event, an SCA wedding and divorce, teenage members baiting the mundanes, the dark side of the shire, a baronial petition, and the coronet. Each booklet carries the disclaimer that it is not a Society publication and resembles no actual person "except for satiric purpose." Unka Folo's Stories and Stuff (1986) is Folump's short-fiction anthology, with two Dragonspire tales, a Wurm Wald fighter's account of "Aleator and the Waldenwurm," and a cover after Carl Barks. The series has continued to more than fifty volumes.
