In Very Good condition. Illustrated paper covers in ten colors with mild shelf and edge wear; issue numbers written in pencil at top corner of each; sticker ghost on front cover of No. 6; rectangular toning to center of front covers of Nos. 11 and 12; slight tape residue at fore-edge of Nos. 6, 7, 14, 15 and 16 from sealing for mailing; small green numeral stickers on rear covers of Nos. 9 and 10. Every rear cover carries the original SCA mailing label addressed to John Griffin Trimble, with non-profit postage indicia (Los Angeles permit on Nos. 6-10, Boston on Nos. 11-16). Staples tight. Otherwise unmarked. Nos. 6 through 16 of the Society for Creative Anachronism's bimonthly monograph series, lacking only the Brewing (No. 5) and Period Pornography (No. 13) numbers, all with the original subscription mailing labels addressed to John Griffin Trimble (1936-2024), John ap Griffin in the Society, described by the SCA as one of its founding members and the first person to register arms with its College of Arms. The Compleat Anachronist began in July 1982 as the Society's outlet for single-subject research, each number written by members for members making their own clothing, gear and entertainments. This run covers the English Civil War and wheel-lock construction (No. 6), horses and horsemanship (No. 7), leather bags, bottles and dice cups (No. 8), English mystery plays and how to stage one (No. 9), manuscript illumination (No. 10), ballads with music (No. 11), the medieval English house down to a cruck-beam thatched hovel (No. 12), basic garb construction (No. 14), a day and a year at a fifteenth-century abbey (No. 15), and herbs as condiment, medicine, scent and dye (No. 16). Nos. 9 and 10 were printed by the Crown Prints Press of the Kingdom of Caid and No. 14 was assembled by the Lyondemere Task Force from a Collegium Caidis class, both in the Los Angeles kingdom to which the labels were addressed.
