In Very Good condition with a Good dust jacket. Red cloth boards, black illustration on front cover, black lettering on spine. Mild shelf and edge wear. Binding tight. Inscribed and signed by the author in blue ink on the half-title, dated 1982 and personalized to a previous owner; ink shows through faintly to the verso. Otherwise unmarked. Illustrated dust jacket, two bears nose to nose beneath red hearts. Quarter-inch tear to paper over top edge of front panel, a few smaller nicks and tears, mild creasing to edges. A hint of dampstaining to the paper along bottom edge of rear panel. Price of $7.95 present, not clipped. Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. Bear puns paired with spare line drawings: The Libeary, Tinker Bear, baritone, baroque, Berries, the noble bearing of Baron von Bern. Forrester wrote and illustrated it herself, one of eight books she published with Atheneum. A closing note gives her excuses: a British father with a weakness for puns, a California childhood "under the flag of the bear," seven years at UCLA cheering the Bruins and the U.C. Bears, and "I am a libearian (sic)." She took a BA in English, an MLS in library science and an MA in art, all at UCLA. Otherwise known as a Northern California lyric poet, with work anthologized by Lee Bennett Hopkins and Jack Prelutsky.
