In good condition. Pink paper covers show moderate shelf wear, soiling, and light creasing to edges and corners, with the ghost of a removed price sticker at lower right of front cover. Publisher's price label (7s. 6d.) affixed to inside front wrapper. Binding tight. A few pages carry very light pencil markings; pages toned but otherwise unmarked. Written to cover the Ministry of Transport syllabus for the Masters and Mates examinations. The preface notes that many officers then at sea had qualified before electrical knowledge was required of them. Chapters on radio waves and practical applications cover the hyperbolic radio navigation systems then in service, Decca, Loran and Consol, alongside radar and the plan position indicator, echo sounders, electric steering gear and cathodic protection. All three navigation systems have since been retired in favour of GPS, the European Decca chains closing in 2000. Kemp and Young wrote the standard British nautical examination series of the period, issued by Kandy Publications of Brighton and later Surrey. No title page; title from cover, as issued.
