In very good condition. Pale green pictorial paper covers show mild shelf wear, with light bumping to edges and a 1 inch slit to spine at head. Creasing to upper corner of back cover. Binding tight. Pages clean and unmarked. One hundred seventy-five lots of American painting and sculpture, sold simultaneously in San Francisco and Los Angeles on 1 April 1992. Laid in is Butterfield's printed price list for the sale. Notable sales are Thomas Wilmer Dewing's Morning at $143,000, well over its $50,000 to $70,000 estimate and accompanied by a four page letter from Dr. Susan Hobbs, author of the Dewing catalogue raisonne; Willard Metcalf's The Golden Hour of 1907 at $170,500; Frederic Remington's watercolor The Couriers at $88,000, with a second Remington at $71,500; Frank Tenney Johnson's A Mountain Trail at $35,750; and Olaf Carl Seltzer's The Angry Cow at $33,000. Cover lot, Louis Ritman's Tea Time of 1919, did not sell against a $175,000 to $225,000 estimate, nor did an Olaf Wieghorst estimated at $20,000 to $30,000.
