In Very Good condition with a Good dust jacket. Red-brown cloth boards with gilt lettering on front board and spine, mild bumping to edges and mild shelf wear. Binding tight. Mild toning and some foxing to edges of text block and endpapers, pages otherwise clean and unmarked. Pictorial dust jacket, illustrated in black on cream by Sandi Everingham with the Columbia River and a pioneer theatre performance at Fort Vancouver, shows several small nicks and closed tears with creasing along edges, chipping with small areas of paper loss along the top edge of the front panel, mild overall toning and soiling, and a round amber stain from sticker residue at the upper left of the back panel. Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. Full subtitle: A Kaleidoscopic Look At Early Theatre in the Oregon Country and a View of the Changing Pattern of Theatre in the Early Years of the Twentieth Century Into the Present Day. Oregon theatre history from the first play staged in the Oregon Territory in 1846, when British sailors from H.B.M.S. Modeste joined pioneer daughters at the Hudson's Bay Company post at Fort Vancouver, on to the Oregon Shakespearean Festival and Portland Center Stage. A revision and expansion of the author's Seven Nights, Three Matinees (1980). Matson traces the Portland stock companies as a training ground for actors who went on to film: William Powell, Clark Gable, John Gilbert, Fay Bainter, Maude Adams, and Mayo Methot.
