Glossy white illustrated wrappers reproducing Monet's Argenteuil, Vue du petit bras de la Seine. Light bumping to edges and corners, mild toning and soiling, with heavier toning and scuffing to spine; spine lettering rubbed and scuffed, now difficult to read. Binding tight. Interior pages mildly toned along the edges, otherwise unmarked. Catalogue of Galerie Schmit's spring 1972 exhibition: seventy-one works, with Boudin, Courbet, Delacroix and Jongkind as the precursors, then Bazille, Caillebotte, Cassatt, Cezanne, Degas, Gauguin, Manet, Monet, Morisot, Pissarro, Renoir and Sisley. Preface by Francois Daulte, author of the Sisley and Bazille catalogues raisonnes and editor of L'Oeil. Robert Schmit drew on private Parisian collections rather than museums, and Daulte notes in the preface that certain of the pictures had never left the houses where they were jealously kept, which is why the catalogue is still cited as a reference. Entries 52 to 55 are Pissarro's Les Quatre Saisons, the four large canvases commissioned by Achille Arosa in 1872 and on extended loan to the National Gallery of Art in Washington until 1971; Sotheby's London estimated the set at 8 to 12 million pounds in 2017.
