Condition & notes

In Very Good condition, no dust jacket, as issued. Pale celadon paper over boards, silver lettering, a watch movement printed as a ghosted ground. Light bumping to edges and corners with mild shelf wear. Binding tight. Pages clean and unmarked. Price list not present. Breguet's annual retail catalogue, issued from L'Abbaye in the Vallee de Joux. Hayek's introduction argues that Breguet alone among watch houses draws a thread through the fabric of European art and culture. Opening chapters treat Abraham-Louis Breguet's inventions, the tourbillon among them, and the firm's buying back of its own historical pieces, with a double-page facsimile of one of Breguet's annotated working drawings. The catalogue proper runs the Tradition, Classique, Grandes Complications, Marine, Heritage, Reine de Naples and Type XX lines, each model photographed large with its reference number, movement, case metal, dial treatment and diameter. Closes with a glossary and the worldwide boutique list. The catalogue carries no date. The printer's code at the foot of the final page reads 11.06, placing the printing in November 2006, and the boutique list gives the Nicolas G. Hayek Center boutique in Ginza, Tokyo as opening Spring 2007. Contents: Passion finds its echo; Passion persists; A passion for invention and innovation; Remembering the passion; A passion shared; Passion makes perfect; Passion from the age of reason; Tradition Collection; Classique Collection; Grandes Complications; Marine Collection; Heritage Collection; Reine de Naples Collection; Type XX Collection; A dictionary of passion.
