In Good condition with a Good dust jacket. Green leatherette boards, silver lettering on spine. Light bumping and mild shelf wear to edges and corners, with some color loss along the crease of the front hinge. Binding tight. Bright green endpapers. Pages lightly toned but otherwise unmarked. Pictorial dust jacket, a montage of portraits and building photographs across both panels, has a few small nicks and short tears with light creasing along edges, and mild shelf wear and toning overall. Not price clipped, priced 9.00 pounds (9.90 inc. VAT). Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. Cowell (1912-2008), a Dublin physician, ran down the Dublin addresses of 160 people and set each life against the house. Entries run alphabetically in two parts, each giving dates, the address, a portrait, and Gmelch's photograph of the building as it stood in 1980: Swift at the Deanery of St Patrick's, Maud Gonne at Roebuck House, O'Casey at 422 North Circular Road, Casement at Sandycove, the nine-year-old Churchill at the Little Lodge in Phoenix Park. Behan, Joyce, Yeats, Wilde, Shaw, Collins, Connolly, Parnell, Handel, Marconi and Shackleton are among the rest. A closing index arranges everyone by Dublin postal district and prints a district map, so the book works as a walking guide as well as a reference.
