In Good condition. Illustrated Art Deco cover in red, blue, and black, a central heart framed by two flaming torches; cover illustration by Frederick S. Manning (1874-1960), the noted sheet music cover artist known for his elegant depictions of women, who began as a Denver advertising artist before drawing for the Chicago Tribune and Evening Post. Signed "Manning" at lower left. Previous owner's name in ink at top corner of front cover. Small tears at the head and foot of the spine fold, a vertical crease to the rear cover, and a few small edge nicks with light creasing. Interior pages lightly toned. Otherwise unmarked. Rear cover carries a publisher's advertisement for folios of Walter Donaldson songs, with a portrait of the composer and a display of "Little White Lies."Walter Donaldson wrote both words and music for this 1930 number, which was interpolated into the Florenz Ziegfeld musical "Smiles" (starring Marilyn Miller with Fred and Adele Astaire) and became a substantial hit in recordings by Guy Lombardo, Rudy Vallee, Lee Morse, and Nick Lucas. Its chord progression later supplied the harmonic basis for Bennie Moten's jazz standard "Moten Swing," and Betty Boop sang the song in the 1931 pre-Code cartoon "Silly Scandals."
