In Very Good condition. Glossy illustrated paper covers with French flaps, color reproduction of a Mughal elephant miniature to front; light bumping and creasing to edges and corners of covers; mild shelf wear with light toning and soiling. Binding tight; endpapers mildly toned, otherwise pages are clean and unmarked. Tipped-in color plates bright, one (Plate III) with a faint crease. Volume in The Folio Art Books series, with text by Maurice S. Dimand, longtime curator of Near Eastern art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Ten tipped-in color plates of Mughal and Pahari miniatures spanning the reigns of Akbar, Jahangir, and Shah Jahan, drawn from the Metropolitan Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the Freer Gallery, the Seattle Art Museum, and the State Library, Berlin, each with a full page of commentary. Subjects include scenes from the Dastan-i Amir Hamza, the Razm-nama, Krishna legends, a Jahangir-period study of magpies, and a portrait of Shah Jahan on horseback, prefaced by an introduction on the history of Indian painting from the Ajanta caves through the Mughal ateliers.
