Condition & notes
In Good condition, no dust jacket. Red cloth boards, black-stamped lettering and a sailing-ship illustration on front cover; mild to moderate shelf wear, some color loss along edges, and a small white stain to lower front cover. Sewn binding remains tight, but the front board has begun to separate from the text block: the illustrated front paste-down has lifted, exposing the sewing along the front inner hinge, though the board still holds at the spine. A 1.5-inch split to the paper along the rear hinge, between the rear paste-down and rear free endpaper. Previous owner's name inked on title page. Pages mildly toned, otherwise unmarked. An early title in Albert Whitman's Pictured Geography series, introducing young readers to Argentina through its discovery and naming (the Rio de la Plata), Buenos Aires, the cattle and grass of the Pampas and its gauchos, the Andean wine country at Mendoza, the sheep lands of Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego, and the Christ of the Andes. Marguerite Henry went on to win the Newbery Medal and is best known for Misty of Chincoteague; Kurt Wiese was among the most prolific American children's illustrators of his era.
