Nihon Vogue, Published 1993. Paperback, 76 pp.; 26 cm; text in Japanese with project titles in English; illustrated throughout with color photographs and line-drawing construction diagrams; one large fold-out full-size pattern sheet (printed both sides) laid in.
In Very Good condition. Pictorial laminated wraps with a glossy green ground and a color photograph of two teddy bears to the front cover. Covers show only mild shelf wear with light bumping at corners. Binding tight. Interior pages clean, bright, and unmarked. The large fold-out pattern sheet has detached from its original binding but is present, uncut and unused; prior owner has written "Green Cover" in ink at the head of one side (evidently a shelving reference to the book's color) and the sheet shows a small tear at one edge where it was separated from the spine. Otherwise unmarked. A Japanese-language pattern book from Nihon Vogue's "Handmade Teddy Bears" series (the second volume of "My Teddy Bear"). Though the instructional text is in Japanese, project titles are given in English and the abundant construction diagrams, measurements, and pattern pieces are fully visual, usable by any experienced sewist comfortable working from patterns. Projects include "Handsome Bears in Sweater" (a group of five cream-sweatered bears), "Tidy Three Sisters" in white lace dresses, Provence bears, sitting bears in three pieces, big cuddle bears, a standing panda, Japanese-style bears, miniatures, and a dress-up bear with vest, pants, dress, and hat patterns. Construction sections at the rear cover joint placement (plastic and hardboard discs), stuffing, eyes and nose, limb attachment, facial embroidery, and knit and woven garment fitting. The book closes with editorial profiles of several Japanese bear-makers.
