Condition & notes
In very good condition. Pictorial paper covers have light bumping to edges and corners and light overall scuffing and soiling; back cover has mild browning and a few small spots near lower edge. Staple binding tight and secure. Interior pages clean and unmarked aside from light toning at margins. A photographic booklet on the Cripple Creek and Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad in Colorado, documenting the revival of the Cripple Creek gold camp as a tourist railroad in the late 1960s. Appleton combines a brief narrative history of the railroad's creation under Dr. John M. Birmingham with a conductor's-eye account of the line and numerous captioned photographs of the locomotives Montezuma, Vista Grande, and Goldfield, the restored Midland Terminal depot, trestles, yard scenes, and passengers riding the open cars through Poverty Gulch and the surrounding mining district. Provides a snapshot of the early years of the CC&V two foot gauge tourist operation, which opened in 1967 and continues as a heritage railroad.
