Description

Emile Hazan, Paris. [Published date: 1957]. Softcover, 179 pages, frontispiece, and four unnumbered two sided plates (five plates total); black and white illustrations; 23 cm. Text in French. Nouvelle edition, with a preface by General Decarpentry.

Condition & notes

In good condition. Cream printed paper covers have a 3/4 tear to the bottom edge of the front cover near the spine and a few other small chips and short tears at top and bottom of spine and light creasing to edges and corner. Moderate overall scuffing, spotting and soiling to covers as well. Spine lightly stained and sunned. Binding sound though gatherings show slight waviness near gutter from age. Previous owner's signature on the front free endpaper in ink. Otherwise pages are mildly toned but unmarked. All plates present and intact, including the photographic frontispiece and four additional photo plates printed on both sides. Printed on June 15, 1957, at Imprimerie Habauzit in Aubenas (per colophon). A classic French equestrian training treatise by Commandant J. de Salins, presenting the shoulder in (epaule en dedans) as the central movement for developing suppleness, obedience, and balance in the saddle horse. Includes instruction on reins of opposition, breaking and early schooling, principles of dressage, preparing the horse for concours, the bases of haute ecole, and corrective methods for difficult or resistant horses. Preface by the noted horseman General Decarpentry.
