Illustrated throughout with black ink Chinese calligraphy, seal impressions, and rubbings in red and black. Includes biographical profile of Robert Front and photograph with his teacher, Hsieh Tzung-An. Issued in conjunction with exhibitions held July 24 - August 2, 1987 at 159 Lexington Avenue, New York City, and August 14 - 23, 1987 at California State University Library, Long Beach, California. Robert Front (b. 1941, Brooklyn) was a student of Zen and horticulture before moving to Taiwan in 1978 to study Chinese calligraphy and seal carving under master Hsieh Tzung-An. His calligraphy, rooted in ancient bronze inscription styles, reflects traditional Chinese aesthetics with a contemporary scholarly influence. This catalog documents his first major U.S. exhibitions and includes examples of his bronze script and rubbings along with a brief artist biography.
