Description

[Mester Ny.], [Budapest] [Published Date: 1996]. Paper covers [58] pp (unnumbered). 27x25 cm. Illustrations. Text in Hungarian with some English translation. Catalogue to accompany the October 1996 exhibition of Engel Tevan Istvan at the Kossuth Klub in Budapest. In good+ condition with light bumping and creasing to edges of covers and light overall scuffing and soiling. Binding tight. Light age spotting to first and last few pages. Otherwise pages are unmarked. A noted Hungarian graphic artist and illustrator (1936 - 1996), Tevan was widely recognized for his distinctive, often grotesque, and humor-laced pen-and-ink and pencil drawings. Educated at the Hungarian Academy of Applied Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts, he worked extensively in book illustration and was awarded numerous prizes throughout his career. His works appeared in over 300 publications, ranging from Hungarian literary classics to foreign authors such as E.T.A. Hoffmann, Turgenev, and Joyce. This catalogue includes a preface by Komoroczy Geza (translated by Strasser Zsofia), photography by Mester Tibor, typography by Miklosi Imre, and was printed by Mester Nyomda with support from the Hungarian National Cultural Fund.
