NO remainder marks. Catalog of exhibition Matsu Pilgrimages : A Mobile Goddess, held May 11 - Nov. 13, 2011 at 1st Special Exhibition Gallery, National Museum of Natural Science, Taiwan. Around the 23rd day of the third lunar month, as the spring rains gently fall, Taiwan's sky starts to become very "Matsu". While the gentle showers fall, interspersed with periods of warm sunshine, hundreds of thousands of believers take to the roads throughout Taiwan's Western plains and travel in all directions between the most famous Matsu temples. Day after day, believers laboriously walk from place to place. In a period of roughly ten days, believers complete journeys of three to four hundred kilometers, making these pilgrimages a major cultural phenomenon. The National Museum of Natural Science is holding the special exhibition "Matsu Pilgrimage: A Mobile Goddess in Taiwan" in 2011. The exhibition concerning the phenomenon of pilgrimages, which took a year and a half to plan and arrange, involves the efforts of countless Matsu temples, believers, cultural workers, experts and scholars. This book is a publication that comes with the exhibition. The content is divided into two major sections. The first includes five research articles about Matsu cult and the pilgrimages written by the authors Mei-rong Lin, Hsun Chang, Mao-Hsien Lin, Yi-Hsing Lee and Hsu Huang. The other section consists of the exhibition contents, including a catalog for Matsu artifacts and descriptions of the exhibition.
