Description

Mercatorin Kirjapaino, 1950. Hard cover, 229 pp. Text in Finnish. Acceptable/ NO dust jacket. Brown marbled paper over boards with brown cloth on spine and corner tips and black lettering on front. Light bumping to edges and corners and light nicking and fraying to cloth at corner tips and top and bottom of spine. Light overall scuffing and soiling to covers as well. Spine is cracked along front and rear hinges but binding is still intact. Front free end paper has been torn out so first page is title page. About half of the pages have underlining or a light "X" running through the text, all in pencil. A few pages have some light notes, also in pencil. NOT Ex-library. A solid reading copy. Nice detailed black and white illustrations of specimens throughout. Hugo Karma was a Finnish botanist and pharmacologist known for his contributions to the study of medicinal plants and their uses in pharmacology. His work largely revolved around documenting and illustrating the properties of medicinal herbs used in Finnish traditional medicine and pharmacopoeia. This book is a comprehensive visual guide to the raw medicinal materials used in Finland's Pharmacopoeia. It features detailed illustrations of various medicinal plants, herbs, and natural substances that were recognized for their therapeutic properties at the time.
