[From Preface] While the printed records of Orange County local history are considerably less voluminous than those of some other California counties, they are still of formidable size. If all of the periodical literature, federal and local government documents were included, this would indeed be a bulky volume. However, the purpose of this work is to present a list that might prove useful to genealogists and researchers in Orange County local history. The list is limited to materials in book and pamphlet forms, with selected periodical literature, which the compiler feels is of significant importance to the history of the towns and the county in general. This is not a study of local authors, nor an inventory of local imprints. This revision could not have been completed without the suggestions of Mrs. Anna Marie Hager, Dr. William 0. Hendricks and Edwin W. Tomlinson, Librarian, Sherman Foundation Library, the reference librarians throughout Orange County, and the many persons with whom the compiler corresponded. All illustrations are from the collection of Mr. Howard T. Garner of Santa Ana.
