The Call Number was a semi-annual publication of the University of Oregon Libraries from 1965 to 1995. It was a scholarly journal that published articles on a wide range of topics related to history of the West and holdings at the Library. This Centennial issue includes the following articles: Architects of Oregon: Piper and Williams by Lee H. Nelson ; Merriment With No Wine by William J. Pease ; J. Henry Brown's Oregon by Burt Brown Barker; Bronwsville's Advertiser; Archbishop's Jargon by George N. Belknap. Black and white illustrations. [From A Salute to Oregon, pg 2] In this Centennial issue of the Call Number all the articles deal with some new aspect of Oregon history. That it is possible to assemble a group of fresh essays on its past indicates that Oregon is, after all, a young state, and that much of her story remains to be told. Since the basis for these articles is, in accord with the policy of this periodical, material in the University of Oregon Library, their appearance is in the nature of a tribute, not only to Oregon's Centennial celebration, but to the resources of the largest library in the state. It is also a tribute to the variety of uses to which such resources are applied.
