Part of the Bibliotheque Aldine's well respected pocket guide series with full color reproductions. Whereas each volume in series usually focused on one artist, this volume covers several artists who contributed to the movement that came to be known as impressionism. Francois Mathey (1917 - 1993) was curator then chief curator of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris from 1953 to 1985. His exhibitions and writings had great influence over the art world, especially in France. He is the author of numerous works, especially on the French 19th century and on American artists of the 20th century. . .
