Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. Catalogue of the 1998 exhibition at the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, Oslo, of paintings by Olivier Debre (1920-1999), the French painter of the Ecole de Paris lyrical abstraction, made during his many visits to Norway from 1966, when he held his first exhibition at Galleri Haaken, Oslo. The dealer Haaken Christensen introduced him to the fjords and mountains of western Norway. Art historian Magne Malmanger's essay, "Olivier Debre: Between Art and Nature," traces the move from the Signe Personnage paintings of the 1940s and 1950s to the landscape abstractions of Laerdal, Sunndalsfjorden, Skjatvet and Rosendal, reproduced in plates from 1957 to 1996. The exhibition drew on loans from The Phillips Collection, Washington, and Norwegian collectors. Includes a biography, a list of solo and group exhibitions, and a bibliography.
