History of Eugene's First Baptist Church from its founders' lives in Missouri through the completion of its new building in 2003, written by the church's historian Lucile McKenzie from the church history notebooks, minute books, newspapers, family papers and members' recollections. The church was organized on July 1, 1852 in the log cabin of Mahlon Harlow as the Willamette Forks Baptist Church, after the Harlow and Tandy families crossed the Oregon Trail in 1850. The prologue addresses the founders' pre-Oregon lives in Lafayette County, Missouri, including their part in the resistance to Mormon settlement and their ownership of slaves. Later chapters cover temperance and Eugene City's first jail, the Depression, the long pastorate of Dr. Vance Webster (1941-1969), the 1952 centennial, and the move to the Harlow Triangle.
