Narrative history of the November 3, 1893 holdup of the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern's southbound No. 51 at Olyphant, Jackson County, Arkansas, by a "One-Time-Only Train Robbing Gang" of four part-time criminals and four farmers, in which conductor William P. McNally was killed. Follows the gang from whiskey-peddling in the Cherokee Nation through the robbery, the manhunt and trial, the triple hanging of Brady, Wyrick and Mansker at Newport in April 1894, and the pardon of state's witness George Padgett; three robbers were never caught. Hipp, a former reporter for the Jackson County Democrat in Newport, interviewed descendants of the robbers and traces the loot to the Roy Chesney Fund of Siloam Springs. Includes wanted-poster sketches, mug shots, photographs of the gallows, maps of the robbery site and escape routes, and appendices of 1893-94 newspaper accounts and Chesney's will.
