Condition & notes
In Very Good condition. Single folded sheet with mild shelf wear, a few small nicks and creases at edges and corners, crease at upper corner of rear cover, light toning and a few small spots. Original price "50c" in ink at upper right of front cover. Music clean and unmarked, with no performance annotations. The Mills Brothers edition of Johnny Mercer's 1952 rewrite of Paul Lincke's Glow-Worm, the tune from Lincke's 1902 Berlin operetta Lysistrata that Lilla Cayley Robinson set in English for Broadway in 1907. Mercer kept Robinson's chorus and added three new verses of slangy wordplay, marked "Medium jump." The Mills Brothers' Decca recording with Hal McIntyre's orchestra, named on the cover (Decca 28384) and billed as "Bigger than 'Paper Doll'" after their 1943 No. 1, was a top-two Billboard hit with 21 weeks on the charts. Piano and vocal with guitar chord symbols and ukulele diagrams. Gutter advertisement for Marks's "Time to Sing" community song folio; rear cover advertises twelve Marks song albums, including barbershop, Ernesto Lecuona and Johann Strauss collections.
