In Good condition with an Acceptable dust jacket. Green cloth boards, gilt lettering on front cover and spine; light bumping and mild shelf wear to edges. Binding tight. Endpapers with heavy streaked offset toning; text block lightly toned. Full-page ink presentation inscription on front free endpaper: "To Mr & Mrs Wolfie Gilbert, A Souvenir, With All Best Wishes, from Mr & Mrs Fred-Ed-Mont Day." Otherwise unmarked. Red dust jacket with white lettering and lyre ornaments ("Price Seven Shillings and Sixpence" on front panel) shows large losses at head and foot of rear panel, chips and tears at head of front panel and spine ends, chip at lower corner of front panel, and creasing along edges. Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. Collected lyrics of Edward Montagu, published by Francis, Day & Hunter, London's largest popular-music publisher, arranged in four sections (Songs of Sentiment; In Lighter Vein; Flippant and Frivolous; The Nostalgic Past) with plates of the singers who performed them, among them Anne Shelton, Vera Lynn, Dickie Valentine, Reg Dixon, Shani Wallis, Victor Sylvester, Teddy Johnson and Pearl Carr, Jerome Kern and Billie Burke. The book is dedicated "To Doris" with a "Silver Wedding Song" and includes a plate of David Day, co-founder of the firm; the inscription, signed "Fred-Ed-Mont Day," suggests that Montagu was a pen name of Frederick Day (1878-1975) of Francis, Day & Hunter. Inscribed to L. Wolfe Gilbert (1886-1970), Tin Pan Alley lyricist of "Waiting for the Robert E. Lee" and "Ramona.
