Inscribed by the author to the previous owners on front free endpaper, signed "Dorothy" and dated June 1955. Laid in: autograph note from the author on a floral greeting card (watercolor by Lillian Crow), dated June 6, 1955 and signed "Dorothy," presenting the book ("Here's my offering - I think you'll enjoy it"), with hand-addressed envelope. Green cloth boards, navy lettering on spine. Light bumping and some color loss along edges. Binding tight. Previous owner's name stamped on front and rear pastedowns and on both jacket flaps. Pages lightly toned, small spots to dedication page and contents verso. Otherwise unmarked. Illustrated pink dust jacket has chips, small losses and small holes from insect damage along all edges, heaviest at spine ends and corners; some soiling, rear panel toned. Not price clipped ($2.50). Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. Eight short chapters about Christopher, the author's pet parrot: his talking and behavior lessons, bath time, diet and treats, games of marbles and hide-the-thimble, houseguests, and Christmas. Cutting was librarian at the Kansas City Western Dental College, previously with the Kansas City Public Library, and served three and a half years as an army librarian with the WACs in the United States and overseas. According to the jacket, she wrote the book partly with shut-ins in mind, as a guide to the pleasures of keeping a young parrot. The only edition.
