Condition & notes
In Very Good condition. Illustrated paper covers with French flaps (a boy in a spotted top hat fishing from a green field of vines, fruit, and animals on front; the same garden with an owl and a frog on rear), mild shelf wear, light bumping to corners. Binding tight, spine uncreased. Pages clean and unmarked. Illustrated journal by a Taiwanese artist who signs her work Calla: one thought or memory per page, hand-lettered in Chinese with English catchwords, set into watercolor gardens, patchwork hearts, spools of thread, teacups, guavas, and pen-and-ink doodle pages of girls, butterflies, and sewing things. Her preface says a third of the pages first ran as her Map of Dreams column in the Liberty Times, and that the book came out of several years of American life layered over a Taiwanese one, with china-painting, calligraphy, and quilting classes feeding the drawings. Includes a page on discovering Murakami's Norwegian Wood before going abroad, a spring of tomato-growing with a photograph of the harvest, and a printed dedication to her husband. Follows her 1999 book Pei haizi yiqi zuo meng (Dreaming with My Child), pictures and text about her daughter. Out of stock at the publisher's Taiwan distributors as of 2026.
