In Very Good condition. Cream textured card covers, front cover printed with title and three poppies, scattered foxing along top edge of front cover, mild shelf wear; rear cover plain. Comb binding tight. Previous owner's name in ink and address label on inside front cover, name again in ink at head of dedication page; former price in ink at upper corner of first blank leaf. Otherwise unmarked; blank left-hand pages unused. Design sourcebook for china painters: twenty flower and fruit subjects drawn from life in pen and ink, each sheet giving the blossom from several angles with buds, backs, leaves and stems, labeled by hand, with a final sheet of fillers (acacia, forget-me-not, fern, pussy willow, butterflies, bees). Left-hand pages are left blank for the owner's own sketches and notes. Self-published by a china painting teacher for her students; no library record located. [From the author's note] When I want to paint something special, I immediately reach for my own sketches rather than a study. I always need to check the accuracy of my memory for details. I find a composition that keeps repeating the same flower shape rather boring. If I don't check my sketchbook and my notes, my work tends to become repetitive. My students often have trouble turning a flower, or picturing a bud or a particular angle of a flower or a leaf. Although we try to work from life whenever we can, we find our sketches to be a good substitute. I hope you may find them useful too. I've left the left-hand page blank so that you may add your own sketches and notes.
