Catalog of Nostalgia, the 2014 exhibition of new paintings and writings by the San Diego surrealist Tim Cantor (born 1969), self-taught, working in oil on panel and canvas in a manner drawn from Dutch, Flemish, and Renaissance technique, and shown through his own Ashby Galleries (founded 2000) and The Art of Tim Cantor gallery in the Gaslamp Quarter. The introduction describes a body of work more than two years in the making, produced in nightly isolation, and singles out Coeur Parle au Coeur, Stories of Our Own, The Four Seasons, and the title painting. Reproduced works include After the Thaw, Primavera, Portrait of Man's Desire, The Antagonist, The Tears of Things, L'Autre Moitie (concept study on Arches board), The Nestling, Instruments de Musique Ancienne, Hypnagogia (oil, graphite, and charcoal study), Mythos, Isle of Skye, Stories of Our Own, and Sight, with Cantor's poems Portrait of Man's Desire and Stories of Our Own printed opposite their paintings. Published the same year as his fourteen paintings for Imagine Dragons' album Smoke + Mirrors. No copy located in WorldCat.
