In Very Good condition. Orange pictorial wraps with white lettering, front wrap reproducing the woodblock print "Chinese Men." Light bumping to edges and corners, mild shelf wear, and some fading to edges and spine. Soft vertical crease on front wrap near spine fold, and light nicks along spine edge. Small spot of price sticker residue on front wrap near spine. Staple bound, binding tight. Pages clean and unmarked. Catalogue for the exhibition held at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, October 3 to December 1, 1981, reproducing twenty-three woodblock prints given to the museum by Richard B. Gump, former Asian Art Commissioner and president of Gump's, the San Francisco store founded by his family in 1861 and turned toward Asian art by his father. Gump also sponsored the exhibition and this catalogue. Three Nagasaki prints record the Dutch and Chinese trade at Deshima; the remaining twenty are Yokohama prints made after that port opened to foreigners in 1859, dated 1860 to 1894, among them five triptychs reproduced across full spreads. Artists include Hashimoto Sadahide, Utagawa Yoshitomi, Utagawa Yoshikazu, Utagawa Kunimasa IV, Utagawa Kuniteru and Utagawa Hiroshige II. Introduction by Rene-Yvon Lefebvre d'Argence; entries researched by Yoshiko Kakudo, the museum's first curator of Japanese art.
