In Good condition. Tan paper covers with black lettering on front, mildly toned, with mild edge and shelf wear and a hint of soiling. Binding tight. Small nick to lower margin of the leaf carrying plate 52. Light spotting to lower margin of the leaf carrying plate 3. Pages mildly toned but otherwise unmarked. Catalogue for the loan exhibition held at the Los Angeles County Museum, November 19 to December 22, 1946, assembling forty-three paintings by Rubens and twenty-five by Van Dyck. W. R. Valentiner, formerly of the Metropolitan Museum and director of the Detroit Institute of Arts, came to the museum as consulting director of the art collection in 1945 and was co-director by 1946. The museum had acquired its first Old Masters only in the late 1930s, so the loan far exceeded what it then held in the field. Entries give canvas dimensions, dating, prior collections, literature references and lender. Lenders include Duveen Brothers, Dr. Armand Hammer, J. Pierpont Morgan, the Metropolitan Museum, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the M. H. de Young Memorial Museum and the Fisher Art Gallery at the University of Southern California.
