In very good condition. Illustrated paper covers show mild shelf and edge wear. Scored hinges along spine edges of both covers are as issued, not creases. Perfect bound and tight. Pages clean and unmarked. In 1964 Esteban Vicente (1903-2001) and his wife Harriet bought a house, studio and garden on Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton, and he tended that garden for the rest of his life. Late canvases of the 1990s, shown against color photographs of the house, studio and flower beds. Kevin Consey, former director of the Berkeley Art Museum and of the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, argues the move east loosened Vicente's imagery: the Long Island light and the pastel field of floating flowers outside his studio windows pushed the work toward the diffuse and ethereal. He sets Morning of 1991 beside Garden of 1998 to show it. Plates carry estate numbers.
