In Very Good condition. Tan flecked paper covers with black lettering, the numeral 3 printed in a color abstract drawn from the wraparound endpaper. Light bumping and creasing to edges and corners, mild surface and edge wear, and some color loss along the edges of the spine. A little soiling to the back cover. Binding tight. Pages clean and unmarked. Catalogue for the third in the Western States Arts Foundation survey series, selected by Charlotta Kotik, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Brooklyn Museum, who sorted 5,000 transparencies and traveled 42,000 miles to see the work of more than 125 artists before choosing forty-five from the fourteen member states, the Rockies to Hawaii. Each artist receives a page of biography, selected exhibitions and bibliography facing a full-page plate, with a checklist of some one hundred works at the rear. Deborah Butterfield is represented by the Hirshhorn Horse, illustrated here; Rudy Autio, founding resident with Peter Voulkos at the Archie Bray Foundation, by three stoneware pieces; and the British Pop painter Derek Boshier, who made the cover art for David Bowie's Lodger, by two large canvases. Sponsored by Philip Morris Companies with additional National Endowment for the Arts funding, the exhibition toured seven museums from Brooklyn to San Jose between 1986 and 1988.
