In very good condition with a very good dust jacket. Black paper over boards with cream speckled spine, black lettering on spine. Light bumping and scuffing to edges and corners. Binding tight. Inscribed and signed by the author on the title page in black ink, dated 8 Mar 03, personalized to a previous owner identified as a U.S. Army soldier and closing with his customary "Onward and Upward!" Pages clean and unmarked. Pictorial dust jacket is price clipped, with a few small nicks and short tears and light creasing along edges. Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. Second in Robert N. Macomber's Honor Series, which follows U.S. Navy officer Peter Wake from the Civil War through 1908. Winner of the John Esten Cooke Literary Award for Best Work in Southern Fiction. The year is 1864, and Wake commands the naval schooner St. James out of Key West, hunting army deserters in the Dry Tortugas, facing down the French Navy off the coast of Mexico, and contending with Federal army officers during an invasion of upper Florida.
