Condition & notes

In very good condition. Glossy pictorial covers in white and pale blue show mild shelf wear, with light bumping and creasing to edges and corners. A few small dark specks to white front panel. Binding tight. Pages clean and unmarked. Laid in are the original Frankfurter Munzhandlung invoice dated 12 April 1996 and a letter from Schweizerischer Bankverein (Deutschland) AG of the same month. Two-day sale of 2004 lots at the Hotel Frankfurter Hof, 14 and 15 May 1996. Coins and medals run 1 through 1456, arranged by German territory and city, from medieval bracteates through the Empire and closing with world gold. Lots 1457 through 2004 are numismatic literature, each condition-graded with a DM estimate, making the second half a priced survey of the German numismatic book trade in 1996. Alphabetical index of mints and places, a list of the Davenport numbers represented in the sale, and a Literaturverzeichnis giving full entries for the standard references cited. Frankfurter Munzhandlung was then a subsidiary of Schweizerischer Bankverein, whose three-keys device appears on the rear cover, and the laid-in bank letter opens on gold as the currency of medieval trade with the Islamic world before pitching portfolio management to catalogue recipients. Schweizerischer Bankverein merged into UBS two years later. Front cover reproduces a square gold siege klippe of Landau, 1713.
