Official souvenir program for the world premiere of Universal-RKO's film of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, at the restored Paramount Theatre on Congress Avenue, Austin, Sunday, July 11, 1982. Reynolds, Parton, Charles Durning, Dom DeLuise and Jim Nabors attended, the city closed Congress Avenue for bleachers, and the premiere was carried in 156 countries. Covers pair the auditorium with the picture on screen and the same view with the painted grand drape. Inside: a history of the theatre from its 1915 construction, designed by the Eberson firm of Chicago, to the three million dollar restoration of 1980; a letter from chairman Shannon Ratliff and executive producer John M. Bernardoni thanking Governor Clements, Mayor Carole Keeton McClellan and Universal's Lew Wasserman and Sid Sheinberg, and reporting premiere receipts past the $115,000 mark; full cast and credits current to July 2, 1982; two pages of invited guests; and a Texas Film Commission advertisement recording the picture as the 142nd filmed in the state.
