In Very Good condition with a Good dust jacket. Tan cloth boards with brown lettering on front cover and spine. Mild bumping and shelf wear to corners and edges. Binding tight. Pages clean and unmarked. Plain yellow-green dust jacket with black lettering, spine panel faded to pale yellow, split along the front spine fold at the foot running roughly 2 inches with the lower spine corner bent back, head edge frayed with small nicks at both corners, chipping and creasing at the lower front corner, and a faint ghost of a removed label low on the spine panel. Mild soiling overall. Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. Documentary biography of Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772), the Swedish scientist, anatomist and theologian. Sigstedt worked for several years in Sweden with the scholar Alfred Henry Stroh on the collection and listing of all documents pertaining to Swedenborg's life, and arranged that material for the first time in strict chronological order, presenting Swedenborg as he appeared to his contemporaries rather than interpreting him. Sources include the Royal Archives and Royal Library in Stockholm and the Library of the Academy of the New Church at Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania, where the author completed the work in October 1952. This is the Swedenborg Society's 1981 printing.
